Maple, the David Chang-backed delivery service that plans to revolutionize home food delivery has just received a huge windfall to make everything a reality. The fledgling company just received an additional $22 million in funding from Greenoaks Capital and other venture capital firms in addition to the initial $4 million from Thrive, reports Forbes. The company's special commissary kitchens—there are no restaurants involved—are expected to begin service in NYC in the next few months.
"As we prepare for our New York Launch, this round of funding will help support the brandls investment in infrastructure, will allow us to continue to attract top talent for the team, and will enable us to continue to invest in technology," says co-founder and COO Akshay Navle. "We're excited to combine the best chefs in the city with purpose built technology to provide what we think will be a truly unparalleled delivery experience."
So far, that team includes Chief Culinary Office David Chang, of course, plus Executive Chef Soa Davies, who started out at Le Bernadin and now heads up Salt Hospitality. Also on the roster, two James Beard award winners—Dan Kluger and Brooks Headley—and Michelin-Starred chef Mark Ladner of Del Posto.
It's been a big week for Chang, who also announced his new fried chicken concept during a keynote address at SXSW.
