Welcome to our new Q&A feature, Culture Quest, where we're asking the same set of questions to some of the notables stopping by the 92nd Street Y. Below, we find out the culture habits of Jeremy Piven, who we spoke on the phone with last week.
Where do you get your news? It depends on where you are in the moment. The Huffington Post is a great place, I still read the NY Times, but not online. Sometimes you can really get fast news from a Twitter feed. And my mother has "Mr. Selfridge" Google alerts, so my mom has a lot of very interesting information. She doesn't know how to use call waiting, but she has Google alerts.
Does she have a "Jeremy Piven" Google alert? Just Mr. Selfridge.
Do you have any favorite websites? Just Grindr, that's how I get my news.
What book are you currently reading?Mindfulness, and a book called Outwitting the Devil.
Do you subscribe to any magazines? You know what, no.
What is your current favorite TV show? Well, I think Luther... I know it's been on the air for a minute or two, but I do love that show.
What's the last movie you saw?Birdman... I loved it, loved it.
What's the last performance you attended? The last one was A View From the Bridge at the Young Vic in London, starring Mark Strong. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen in my entire life.
What's the last music purchase you made? Beck's latest CD... I think Kanye recommended it.
What place in NYC (like a landmark, or museum, or neighborhood) are you embarrassed to admit you've never visited? That's kind of a leading question.
Oh yeah? Yeah, it is. I'm ashamed I've never been to prison.
Okay, so you've never been to Rikers... No, no. I've been to so many amazing places.... um... I've never been to the Statue of Liberty!
We also slipped in an Entourage questions, even though, like Mr. Piven's mom, we're more about Mr. Selfridge.
Are you excited about the Entourage movie coming out? Well, I am excited about the movie coming out, because I feel like... you have to understand, I was lucky enough to be a part of it for eight seasons, and then the movie.
I never had a lot of luck in my career, and I think that particular project, for whatever reason, and I would not be able to tell you why, maybe it's Mark Wahlberg... They should study Mark's DNA, there's something magical about him. Maybe because he was involved we were so lucky from the jump, so, it's a miracle when your show sees the light of day, much less has this type of success.
Would you be interested in doing sequels? As far as proceeding after that, I don't think it's so healthy to get ahead of yourself, so I would never presume that there is going to be a sequel.
Join Jeremy Piven with PBS Masterpiece's Rebecca Eaton, in conversation with Matt Lauer at 92Y this Thursday, March 19th.
