Cult chicken chain Chick-fil-A is finally making their move into the NYC market with the opening of their first standalone shop this year. The chain wasn't able to open their promised "multiple locations" last year, but they've confirmed that in late summer they'll be coming to Sixth Avenue just north of Herald Square. Some of the details have been released to Crains about the flagship store, whose 5,000 square feet of chicken fried goodness dwarfs that tiny NYU outpost by quite a bit.
The new eatery will stand at 1000 Sixth Avenue at West 37th Street, taking over all three floors of an existing brick building. Each floor boasts 2,200 square feet of space, which will house 10 cash registers and somewhere in the ballpark of 80 seats. And just because it's now operating in the Big Apple, don't expect much to be different from the nearly 2,000 other locations—this one'll be closed on Sundays, too.
Chick-fil-A's noted anti-gay actions could be a deterrent for some New Yorkers to visit the franchise, but that won't dissuade the chain from further expansion. They're still planning to open more locations within the five boroughs this year and next whether we want them to or not.
