A fifth Wesleyan University student has been arrested for his role in the Molly overdoses which led to 11 students being hospitalized last month.
Abhimanyu Janamanchi, 21, turned himself in yesterday in connection to the Molly overdoses which occurred between Feb. 21st and 22nd. He's been charged with two counts of distribution of a hallucinogen, two counts of possession of a hallucinogen, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. Four other students were arrested last month.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, in addition to allegedly supplying the drug to several students, Janamanchi was one of the 11 people hospitalized. Police add that they found capsules with four different powdery substances, including one which is "a synthetic cannibinoid that is smoked for a psychoactive effect," in his belongings and in his room.
The Courant has the details about the other four students who have been arrested:
Andrew Olson, of Atascadero, Calif., was arraigned in court on Tuesday on charges of two counts of selling a hallucinogen, two counts of possession of a hallucinogen, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Three other students - Zachary Kramer, 21, Rama Agha al-Nakib, 20, and Eric Lonergan, 22 - were arraigned in court Feb. 25 in connection with the MDMA investigation.
Lonergan, of Rio de Janeiro, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and 16 counts of illegally obtaining or supplying drugs.
Kramer, of Bethesda, Md., is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a regulated substance and possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana.
Al-Nakib, a Syrian citizen living in Lutherville, Md., is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
All five students have been suspended from Wesleyan. "Wesleyan takes very seriously allegations concerning the distribution of dangerous drugs, and we will continue to cooperate with state and local officials to do everything we can to make our community as safe as possible," the university said in a statement.
