The cost of living in NYC rose 23% between 2009 and 2014, according to a report from The Economist that we can't afford to read because it costs $995. But according to a précis on the magazine's website, the cost of living in this dirty town has increased dramatically since the year Dragonball: Evolution came out. In other news, napkins are useful for drying things, according to a bunch of napkins on my desk.

The Economist's Worldwide Cost of Living report is derived from a survey that compares more than 400 individual prices "across 160 products and services" in 133 cities around the world. These include "food, drink, clothing, household supplies and personal care items, home rents, transport, utility bills, private schools, domestic help and recreational costs."

According to their latest report, NYC ranks 22nd on the Cost-of-Living Index. The city-state of Singapore currently has the highest cost of living, followed by Paris, Oslo, Zurich and Sydney. Sure, they're all very expensive cities in their own right, but where else but NYC can you sip a cup of $9 broth while waiting on line to buy a $5 donut?

Drop a thousand dollars and read the full report here at your leisure.
