A woman whose 3-year-old nephew was found dead while in her care this week has been charged in his death, and sources tell the Daily News she confessed to fatally beating him with a belt.
According to the NYPD, 21-year-old Christen Dale has been charged with manslaughter, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of a weapon, in connection with the death of Ethan Ali, 3. Ethan was found dead in his Brownsville apartment on Wednesday, and the medical examiner's office ruled yesterday that he died from “multiple blunt impact injuries.”
Law enforcement sources say Dale, who was watching over Ethan while his mother was out of the apartment, admitted to hitting him with a belt because he wouldn't go to sleep. “He came into her room and started jumping up and down on her bed,” a source told the News. “She told him, ‘Go to your room.’ Then she hit him with the belt.”
Dale's boyfriend, Kenroy Skeet, 26, reportedly found Ethan on Wednesday afternoon, and called the cops when he discovered the boy was unresponsive. Ethan had bruises on his body, and police believe he suffered a history of abuse.
