A trio of cops rescued—or at least, picked up off the ground—a red-tailed hawk found possibly injured in the streets of Midtown.
The majestic bird, generally more at home circling fields and woodlands in search of scuttling voles, was found plopped on the ground at West 57th Street near Sixth Avenue this morning. Officers who first spotted the bird suspected it might have smacked into a nearby building, since it was displaying distinctly un-hawkish behavior—"just lying there, just looking around," one cop told DNAinfo.
Emergency services workers used their training to cover the hawk in a blanket and bring it to the Wild Bird Fund Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center on the Upper West Side. We reached out to the center for an update on the hawk's condition, but have not yet heard back.
This is not the first time this has happened.
