Four inches of snow fell over the weekend, pushing the monthly total to almost a foot and the seasonal amount to 28.4 inches. The average winter snowfall in Central Park is 25.8 inches, so congratulations to winter 2014-15 for being above average! Speaking of above average, yesterday was the first time this month, nay the first time since January 25th, that the temperature was warmer than normal.

We won't have to worry about any pesky warmer than normal weather for the remainder of February. An Arctic front roared through the region early this morning, quickly plunging the temperature below freezing. That is the story of the day as the temperature is expected to drop to the mid teens by early evening and down into the single digits overnight. That won't be cold enough to break the record in Central Park, but surrounding stations will almost certainly reach new lows. Wind chill values, of course, will hover near zero today and below zero tonight.

There is not much to say about the rest of the month's weather. It's going to be cold all week with highs mostly in the lower to mid 20s except for Wednesday, which may get above freezing. A slow moving cold front will approach late Tuesday so we can't totally discount a chance for snow on Tuesday night or Wednesday, but there is not much moisture associated with that storm system. Warmer weather should arrive for the weekend and the extended forecasts do not show a return to bitterly cold weather after that.
