This morning's low was three degrees in Central Park, bringing joy to all who live here. The coldest day in more than eleven years! Today is the coldest February 16th since 1904 and just two degrees shy of tying the record set in 1888. For you statistics nerds this morning's low was more than two standard deviations below the day's long-term average of 26.6 degrees. While the sun is starting to get fairly high in the sky it still doesn't have enough heating power to overcome this polar air mass. This afternoon's high will be in the upper teens.

While we got the cold and wind we mostly missed out on the snow this weekend with less than an inch falling in Central Park. No worries as we'll get another chance tonight and tomorrow. This time Mother Nature is going to take the southern route as the storm that is bringing ice and snow from Oklahoma to the Carolinas is expected to be off the Mid-Atlantic coast by tomorrow morning. Once again the city will be at the western fringe of a storm so we are thinking the Weather Channel's forecast for an inch of snow is the best bet, but the snow is going to be fluffy so 2-4 inches isn't out of the question. Tuesday's high should reach the mid 20s.

Light flurries might linger into Wednesday, but they shouldn't amount to much. Wednesday looks to warm to the upper 20s, but another cold front on Wednesday night will bring another round of bitterly cold weather to end the week. There is still a wide spread in the temperature forecasts. The National Weather Service is the most pessimistic, saying highs in the teens on Thursday and Friday and record lows near zero on Friday and Saturday. AccuWeather and the Weather Channel aren't nearly as cold in their forecasts. Everyone says we are headed for a weekend warmup.
