Excellent East Village newcomer Au Za'atar gets into brunch this weekend, lending their signature Lebanese-French flavors to eggs and other hangover crushing entrees. Their $18 prix fixe menu includes a complimentary coffee plus cocktail (mimosa, beer, sangria, etc.) and a choice of entree like their Vegetarian Falafel Benedict with spicy tomato sauce or the Au Za'atar Breakfast with hummus, falafel, chopped salad, sunny side up eggs and pita dusted with their namesake spice mix. The a la carte menu includes a version of Shakshuka, a Kafta Benedict with grilled meat and their excellent selection of mezze.

It's time for another cruelty-free extravaganza at Saturday's Five of Heats! Vegan Shop-Up!, filled with all sorts of non-animal products and eats to munch on site or take home for later snacking. The free event takes over the Pine Box Rock Shop yet again, with some very special Valentine's Day offerings from Cinnamon Snail, Cheezehound and iced treats from 3 Little Birds, among others. It's also a market for non-food items; perhaps your loved one is in need of some vegan soap?

Jimmy's No. 43 plays host to two special events starting Sunday. First up, the Winter Hot Dog Championship, a gourmet dog event hosted by Revolving Dansk. They'll be topping the dogs with things like chili ginger ketchup and sel gris taro chips, with pints from Evil Twin brewing to wash them down for a few extra pennies. The $15 tickets include all three dogs plus a "røde pølse hot dog served Danish-style." The event begins at 1 p.m., with the classic dogs and winner announcement from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Immediately after the hot dog event—and running through February 17th—the excellent Kimchi Smoke pops up at Jimmy's, bringing their popular Austin Cho sandwich plus two popular specials from their previous pop-up. The "Chonut" (seen above) sees a buttered, fried brioche roll stuffed with pan fried smoked brisket, bacon, American cheese, bourbon chipotle sauce and a sunnyside egg; then the whole thing is sprinkled with powdered sugar. Next, the Ramen Fried Chicken, which uses instant ramen noodles as its source of crunch. The pop-up will operate 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. the 15th through the 17th.
