It's still gonna be at least a year—and probably more—'til Williamsburg can stock up on organic pistachios at their very own Whole Foods. But things progressed right quick on the Upper East Side, where the latest WF is slated to open on Third Avenue on February 18th. It'll join the packed out Fairway on 86th Street as the latest grocery addition to the 'hood, bringing with it some special UES-specific amenities, which probably won't include vinyl.
Whole Foods spokesperson Michael Sinatra gave us some perks Upper East Siders will be privy to post opening, including unique store features like hand-sliced salmon and a fresh quiche program that'll be implemented on-site. The tri-level space isn't the largest in Whole Foods's fleet, but it'll still be home to a mezzanine seating level in-between a ground floor prepared foods, coffee and juice section and an upstairs floor with the main shopping area.
"It's different from any of the other stores we have in New York City," Sinatra told us. "It's very residential there so we wanted to put an emphasis on convenience for shoppers getting in and out of the store."
Part of that convenience factor will be located on the ground floor, where they're implementing a brand new (to NYC) prepared food kiosk system, where customers can order food items, then pick up their food when they've completed their shopping. It'll include their pizza, salad and wrap stands, as well as the taco program that first debuted at the Tribeca outpost.
Also unique to the store: a new cheese club program, where members receive three, half pound portions of cheese each month, accompanied by crackers and a condiment. The program will focus on local cheeses—like the new product from the Crown Heights cheese cave—as chosen by Whole Foods's excellent cheesemongers.
