The historic ALL CAPS blizzard that was supposed to clobber NYC (everything was shut down) has turned into a big "Hey, we got lucky!" moment. So as the meteorologists start apologizing, let's see what the totals for the region actually were.
Even late last night, the National Weather Service said 20-30 inches would hit New York City, with more in the outer boroughs (like up to three feet! THREE FEET!), but that clearly wasn't the case. The NWS's snow totals as of 7:37 a.m. are:
BRONX
- Parkchester, 9.9 inches (as of 6 a.m.)
BROOKLYN
- Sheepshead Bay, 6 inches (7 a.m.)
- Rutland Plaza, 4.3 inches (4 a.m.)
MANHATTAN
- Upper West Side, 8.3 inches (6:40 a.m.)
- Central Park Zoo, 7.8 inches (7 a.m.)
QUEENS
- Laguardia Airport, 11 inches (7 a.m.)
- Jamaica, 10.1 inches (3:15 a.m.)
- Forest Hills, 9 inches (5 a.m.)
- JFK Airport, 8.6 inches (7 a.m.)
- Richmond Hill, 8 inches (5:55 a.m.)
STATEN ISLAND
- Annadale, 4 inches (7:15 a.m.)
On Long Island, they got slammed:
NASSAU COUNTY
- Massapequa, 14.2 inches (4:27 a.m.)
- Seaford, 12.7 inches (7 a.m.)
- Oyster Bay, 12 inches (7:05 a.m.)
SUFFOLK COUNTY
- Mattituck, 24.8 inches (7:15 a.m.)
- Islip Airport, 20.9 inches (7 a.m.)
- North Babylon, 18 inches (6:15 a.m.)
- Sayville, 17.9 inches (6:45 a.m.)
- Upton, 16.2 inches (7 a.m.)
- Flanders, 16 inches (4 a.m.)
- Deer Park, 16 inches (5:30 a.m.)
- Centerport, 13 inches (6:48 a.m.)
In New Jersey, the totals ranged from 2.4 inches (Cranford) to 6 inches (Newark Airport). Connecticut, which instituted a travel ban and is only slowly lifting it now, saw snowfall from three inches (Danbury) to 4 inches (New Haven), 5-5.8 inches (Bethel and Norwalk) to 7-8 inches (Groton, Haddam)—and Meriden got 11.5 inches, North Guilford 13 inches, Essex and Ledyard Center 15-15.6 inches!
