A 44-year-old woman was killed in Morningside Heights last night after being struck by an SUV. According to police, the incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. when the woman was crossing eastbound on West 113th. She was struck by an SUV traveling northbound on Amsterdam Avenue; the vehicle fled the scene. Just steps from the hospital's emergency room, the victim was pronounced DOA at Saint Luke's Hospital.

It's unclear whether the victim was in the crosswalk when she was killed and there are few details available about the incident at this time. Witnesses report she may have been a photographer as she was carrying camera equipment with her when she was struck. The victim's identity is currently being withheld.

The driver who fled the scene is still at large; the vehicle appeared to be a black sports utility vehicle, according to CBS.

The police are still investigating.
