A Delta employee has been arrested by federal agents after allegedly helping to fly firearms between Atlanta and New York, according to authorities.

Officials say that 31-year-old Eugene Harvey, a former baggage handler for the airline company, was arrested on Monday in connection to a December 10th incident in which a passenger arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport with 18 handguns, 7 of which were loaded, in his carry-on luggage. That passenger, Mark Quentin Henry, is a former Delta employee who authorities believe handed off 129 handguns and two assault rifles to local co-conspirators from May 1st to December 10th of this year.

Harvey, who works at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, allegedly used his employee access card to enter a secure area of the airport, thus giving him the opportunity to hide the handguns and ammunition in Henry's backpack after it had been screened by the TSA. He was then allegedly able to pass the bag to Henry in a men's restroom before the latter boarded his flight to New York.

Authorities believe Harvey helped Henry smuggle guns from Atlanta to New York on a number of occasions this year, and at one point, one of Henry's co-conspirators sold the smuggled guns to an undercover NYPD officer. Henry was fired by Delta in 2010, and the airline says they're investigating the current charges. "Delta is cooperating with authorities in this investigation. We take seriously any activity that fails to uphold our strict commitment to the safety and security of our customers and employees," airline spokesman Morgan Durrant told the Associated Press.

Harvey has been charged with trafficking firearms, co-conspiring and violating airport security. Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson will hold a press conference later today to discuss the bust, which resulted from a "long-term firearms trafficking investigation."
