We've got artisanal mayonnaise, fancy French mustard and now a bar dedicated to olive oil and its many applications. We Olive, a California transplant, landed in Boerum Hill recently, operating as part retail outlet and part cafe. The shop sells all sorts of spreads, vinegars and other fun foodstuffs, but their main draw is a selection of 40 different olive oils, which they'll let guests sample before committing to a purchase.
Of the oils, they'll offer drizzling styles like Arbequina and Mission, which can stand in as a butter substitute in many applications. They'll also offer flavored varieties including garlic, basil and blood orange. After enjoying an olive oil flight, pick an oil or two either in the bottle or in their bulk section, which goes for $1.25 an ounce.
Also on hand, a wine bar featuring California wines and a small bites menu that utilizes the shop's products wherever possible. Experience the white truffle olive oil and artisan honey inside a Ricotta & Prosciutto Panini ($14) or the House Kale Salad ($14) with aged balsamic and Arbequina olive oil. When the warmer weather returns, check out the large back patio; for now, perch on high tops at the back of the bar.
