After a lengthy vacancy, a 127-year-old historic pier in Lower Manhattan has finally been revamped and rebooted into Pier A Harbor House, serving beers and bites overlooking the Hudson River. Peter Poulakakos, Danny McDonald and Michael Jewell, who've made the Financial District more of a cocktail destination with The Dead Rabbit, have restored the beautiful landmark, which has been a Harbor Police port, a VIP entry for Ellis Island and an FDNY station since being erected in 1886. Now, it houses a multi-level bar, restaurant and events space, which capitalizes on the stunning setting with its sweeping water views.

For now, the ground floor bar section is the only one open for now; the fine dining restaurant should debut sometime in the next three months. The large space is handsomely, if simply, decorated, boasting one of the longest bars in the city according to the release. The design is mercifully low on nautical theming, channeling the spirit of the Hudson with rich blue tile work and an open oyster bar; the views do the heavy lifting decor-wise. Outdoor benches offer the best views of the water, New Jersey and the Statue of Liberty. It'll be a mob scene once the weather heats up again.

Views from inside aren't too shabby either, especially with a custom cocktail or craft beer in hand. Seafood Towers with oysters, clams, lobster, crab, tuna and shrimp are good for a light meal with a G&T, perhaps; heartier fare includes pork bratwurst, fish & chips, clam chowder and a weekend brunch.
