**[Update Below]**East Village wine-and-cheese bar Bourgeois Pig celebrated their decade milestone with a forced relocation. The bar dropped the news yesterday that they were "another victim of massive rent spikes" and would be forced to close their East 7th Street space when the lease concludes in February of next year. Luckily for them, they were able to secure a new space not far away on MacDougal, ensuring a nearly uninterrupted flow of fondue to our cheese-clogged arteries.
Beginning next Monday, December 1st, the new Bourgeois Pig will begin operations at 127 MacDougal at West 3rd Street, on a reasonably quiet stretch of NYU-controlled territory. They're debuting a new menu, which includes a Pumpkin Spice Fondue (naturally), made with Emmental cheese, fresh pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne, with roasted veggies, bread and fruit for dipping. Also on tap: a S'mores Fondue made with dark chocolate and a "Best Of" cocktail list from their previous 10 years.
Until their closure next year, the OG BP will serve a slightly pared down menu of meats, cheeses and some select fondues, according to their website. We've reached out for details on the rent hike and what it might mean for other establishments on the block; we'll update if we hear back.
Update: The Bourgeois Pig team tells us the rent was "doubled" but declined to divulge further.
