A 14-year-old boy was killed yesterday evening after an elderly woman fatally struck him with her car in Kensington, then fled the scene. She has since been arrested.
According to police, 14-year-old Mohammed Uddin was crossing East 7th Street at Caton Avenue, just a block from his home, at around 5:05 p.m. There, he was struck by a driver in a Chevy Impala making a lefthand turn onto East 7th Street after traveling westbound on Caton Avenue. The teen was transported to Maimonides Hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. “I saw him lying in the middle of the street face-down. He was breathing really hard,” a relative of the victim told the Daily News. “He was alive but looked hurt really bad. I called 911."
The driver, identified by police as 78-year-old Lynn Reynolds, fled the scene, but was arrested early this morning. She has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury, along with traffic violations for failing to exercise due care and violating the right of way of a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
Uddin was a freshman at Brooklyn Technical High School, according to the Daily News, and went by his middle name, Naiem. He leaves behind his parents, a college-age sister and a 4-year-old brother.
