They say delayed gratification makes the end result even better, so hopefully the two year wait for the new Midtown Hooters was a gratifying one. The wings-n-breasts operation has finally sealed the deal, so to speak, for its new 33rd Street location, which will boast "a great view of Madison Square Garden," according to a media rep. How that'll be possible from down the block remains to be seen, but visitors will certainly get an eyeful of something!
Though the most opening date confirmation we could get was "early next month," Bowery Boogie notes that the last remnants of previous tenant Peep World have been taken away, so that fresher, tights-clad versions of the same thing can move in. The blog also notes that two liquor licenses are also still pending with the SLA.
The breastaurant closed four area locations a few years back following a franchisee disagreement and potential plans for both a Coney Island and Park Slope outposts both fell through. Manhattan's original Hooters occupies the space above a parking lot on West 56th Street, just a short block from Carnegie Hall. The new place seems better suited amidst the insanity around MSG, where legions of sports fans can load up on all the parts they need before stumbling into a Knicks game. Someone please inform the proper authorities.
