A man in his 40s was struck and killed by an MTA bus driver in Ridgewood, close to the Bushwick border, early this morning, according to police.

The NYPD says the unidentified victim was crossing Palmetto Street at Wyckoff Avenue at around 5:10 a.m. this morning when an MTA bus traveling northbound on Wyckoff Ave made a right turn onto Palmetto. The bus's back wheels struck the pedestrian, and when police arrived on the scene, he was lying on the roadway on Palmetto Street, having suffered severe trauma to his body. He was transported to Wyckoff Hospital and pronounced dead.

Today's fatality occurred near the intersection where 23-year-old Ella Bandes was struck and killed, also by an MTA bus driver, in 2013. No charges were filed against that driver.

"We are saddened by the news of yet another fatal crash caused by an MTA bus driver who failed to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk," Transportation Alternatives Deputy Director Caroline Samponaro said in a statement today. "Six pedestrians, one bicyclist and one motorcyclist have been hit and killed by MTA bus drivers so far in 2014. Of the six pedestrians killed, five were hit by a turning bus while trying to cross thestreet. In 2013, eight pedestrians were struck and killed by MTA buses."

Authorities say there were no other injuries, and no arrests have been made
