Halloween is almost here, but before you overdose on miniature Snickers bars and the like, take heed. Candy corn is a cruel beast that lures you in with its promise of delicious, honey-filled sweetness, but that sweetness is a demon that will have you balled up in pain for many moons. So be sure to eat some real food before this fate befalls you—here's where to do it this week.
On Monday, Louro in the West Village is hosting a "Dante's Inferno: 9 Circles of Hell" Halloween-themed dinner as part of their weekly Nossa Mesa supper club series. The nine-course feast features dishes named after popular horror books, like a New England chowder for Jaws, a lamb salad with fava beans and a chianti reduction for Silence of the Lambs, and pig head with smoked tomato soup and grilled cheese for Rosemary's Baby. The meal starts at 7 p.m., runs $65-per-person and is BYO wine and beer; make a reservation through the restaurant.
Make your way to Clinton Hall in the Financial District on Tuesday for a Harvest Moon Cidery Cider Tap Takeover. The upstate cider makers will be bringing 10 of their rare small-batch brews, like Glinda's Gold and Maple Moon, to town from 7 to 11 p.m., and the event is free to attend, though attendees should pay and drink as they go. RSVP online.
And on Wednesday, St. Mazie Bar & Supper Club in Williamsburg is throwing a special Halloween dinner-and-a-film feast, pairing a three-course prix-fixe meal with the 1920 silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Calligari. The $40 meal-and-movie deal includes a signature cocktail, a soup or salad, your choice of chicken, porchetta or vegetarian pasta and a dessert—as a bonus, the film will be soundtracked with a full band's live performance of an original score by musician Alex Simon. You can reserve a spot through the restaurant.
