A 36-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in her Upper West Side apartment last night after a man forced his way inside, according to police.
Authorities say the unidentified woman was entering her building in the vicinity of 105th Street and Central Park West at around 10:30 p.m. last night. The suspect allegedly followed her down the street, then forced his way into her apartment, where he sexually assaulted her—CBS 2 reports that the suspect also choked the victim, then fled.
According to police, the suspect also took items from the victim's home; the victim was later transported to St. Luke's Hospital. The Daily News reports that the suspect left his hat at the victim's apartment, which investigators hope will yield DNA evidence. "There are people, but late at night I guess there are less people, and maybe people that you don’t want to be walking around with,” one UWS resident told CBS 2. “…I do know a lot people who live in the neighborhood and I see a lot of them often, but I guess it changes late at night."
The suspect is described as a man standing around 6 foot 2, around 35 to 40 years of age. Cops expect to have more information regarding the assault later this afternoon.
