Tomorrow is the first day of Autumn, which means we're about to dive into several dark, cold months filled with pumpkin and cocoa. Now's as good a time as any to start eating yourself a sweater! Here's where to do it this week:
Head to Hearth in the East Village on Monday for their Third Annual ALS Benefit, featuring celebrity chefs Bill Telepan, Michael Symon, Michael Anthony, Jonathan Benno, Karen Demasco and Claudia Fleming. The crew will whip up a seven-course meal, with dishes including roasted lava lake lamb loin and rib, ravioli neri alla fra diavalo, and roasted trout. Tickets for the event, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. will benefit A Life Story Foundation, which aims to fight Lou Gehrig's Disease; they run $325-a-pop (beverage pairing included) and can be purchased online.
Also on Monday, Contrada in the East Village is hosting feminist authors Daphne Merkin and Erica Jong, as part of a four-course meal and post-dinner salon. Merkin and Jong will discuss The Fame Lunches, Merkin's newest collection of essays; Contrada will serve dishes like tilefish, grilled romaine caesar and a New York cheesecake. Tickets run $100 a pop and include a copy of Merkin's book; the event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and you can purchase a ticket online.
And on Friday, non-profit organization Project by Project will hold its annual benefit at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. The tasting event, dubbed Plate by Plate, will benefit the Henry Street Settlement, and participating restaurants include The Sea Grill, All'onda and Thalassa Restaurant. Plate by Plate runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and tickets are $150 each; you can purchase one online.
