Today PETA declared NYC to be America's "Most Vegan-Friendly City" of 2014, announcing the title at an adorkable press conference on the steps of City Hall featuring vegan actor Alan Cumming and a replica of NYC made out of vegetables.

Created by D.C.-based food artist James Parker, the edible sculpture features replicas of the World Trade Center, the Empire State building and a radish-carved Chrysler Building. Parker said the piece took three days to make and used eight different kinds of vegetables.

"Rotten carcasses don't feel good in my body," said Cumming, who's been vegan for the past two years. The actor made some brief remarks about vegan eating's positive impact on one's consciousness and constitution, then mugged for photos with City Councilmembers Helen Rosenthal and Corey Johnson, and PETA Vice President of Media Campaigns Dan Mathews.

PETA said it chose NYC as the most vegan city mostly for its expanding array of delicious vegan noms, such as Blossom, Organic Avenue and even quick-fix options like tasty veggie wrap emporium Terri. "With all the veggie restaurants sprouting off offshoots through the city and with the first vegetarian public school, New York was the obvious winner this year," Mathews declared. We're guessing he never stopped by Pig Island.

Councilmember Helen Rosenthal also announced she'll be introducing a resolution for citywide Meatless Mondays. Cinnamon Snail's gonna need a bigger truck.
