A Syracuse University soccer player has been suspended from the team and placed under investigation by the school after a video surfaced allegedly showing her using racist and homophobic terms. Senior Hanna Strong, a midfield player on the women’s soccer team, can be seen shouting at a black male student after some sort of confrontation. "Are you recording this? You f----t ass n----r. It’s bullshit," she says to the person taking the video. "Call me out on saying the n-word? I don't give a shit. Don't record me saying this!"
The origin of the video has not been explained, nor what precipitated the argument on camera. Either way, the Instagram video alone was enough to cause Coach Phil Wheddon to suspend her, as well as warrant responses from various university officials.
"We are aware of the offensive comments made last night by a member of the women's soccer team. This type of intolerant and hurtful language, focused on both race and sexual orientation, is not part of the culture we seek to foster among our student-athletes and it has no place at Syracuse University," Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross said in a statement. "Syracuse Athletics, as a strong and diverse part of this University community, has zero tolerance for these actions."
