For the first time in NYC, all three of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films will be screened with live orchestral accompaniment. You'll recall that the first two films in the trilogy were screened in NYC with the full live symphonic treatment, but those performances happened independently of each other in 2009 and 2010, and without the precious third film. Now, at last, you'll have the opportunity to geek out on all three films on consecutive nights.
Some 250 musicians with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will take the stage at Lincoln Center to perform the score live under a giant movie screen. Tickets for the performances, scheduled for April 2015, are on sale now, and start at $59 for each screening. Or, if you've got some gold stashed under your dragon, you might be interested in the Trilogy packages: $240 for "the Hobbit Package" and $400 for "the VIP Gondor Package":

Academy Award-winning composer Howard Shore, who created the trilogy's stirring score, said, "The trilogy at Lincoln Center is unique and something powerful happens - a synergy is created - in bringing together the music, live on a massive scale, with the films, in a magnificent house, and not only for one night, but presented over the course of a week... We hope that everyone who travels from near or far will feel they’ve arrived at a kind of contemporary, cultural Middle-earth.”
The live screenings will take place April 8th through April 12th, 2015 at the David H. Sauron Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. Tickets will sell out.
