One person was killed and four others were shot early this morning in Crown Heights during the pre-West Indian Day Parade festivities. Police say that a 55-year-old man was fatally shot in the torso around 3:30 a.m. at the corner of Empire Boulevard and Rogers Avenue, a few blocks away from the parade route.

In addition, a 22-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were both shot in the leg by the same 26-year-old suspect. Both of them were taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. A cop was also injured when one of the bullets hit an unmarked cop car, and he was cut with glass.

The alleged shooter, who the Post claims has 26 prior arrests, was arrested after dropping a .45 semi-automatic gun. According to the News, NYPD Commissioner Bratton called the suspect a "career criminal" and said he was recently paroled.

Two other people were shot over the next hour: a 28-year-old woman was shot in the butt on Utica Avenue near St. John’s Place, two blocks from the route. She was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. Then a 22-year-old man was shot in the foot near McKeever Place and Sullivan Place around 4:30 a.m. No arrests have been made in either incident.

These Sunday morning shootings come on the heels of a lot of weekend violence, including at least 10 shootings and one death.
