OMG you guys, actual summer weather for the last week of summer! Well, half the last week of summer, but we'll take what we can get. A high pressure system on the ground and a ridge in the jet stream overhead will allow for plenty of sun today, and most of us should see temperatures in the mid 80s, but places along the shore may be cooler if a sea breeze kicks in this afternoon.
A near-repeat is on tap for Tuesday with one difference. The wind today will generally be out of the northeast. As the high moves offshore the wind will veer around and start coming out of the southwest tomorrow afternoon, setting the stage for a hot and humid Wednesday. Look for sticky conditions and a mid-week high approaching 90 degrees.
The brief burst of heat is expected to come to an end Wednesday night when a cold front will pass through the region, bringing showers and thunderstorms. Thursday's high should only reach the low 80s and Friday looks to stay in the 70s. That front and the cool, dry air behind it, will also keep Tropical Storm Cristobal well off to sea as it heads up the Atlantic.
