Governor Cuomo told reporters today that the ethics commission he controlled then abruptly disbanded was an "overwhelming success." That time his office ordered the investigators to kill a subpoena of a firm that he did business with? “That’s not a sign of interference. That is demonstrable evidence of independence.”

“Of course, there were going to be conversations,” Cuomo said of the angry confrontations between his lackeys and the esteemed attorneys who realized they were wasting their time and credibility for a political publicity stunt and a watered-down ethics bill. “Of course there was dialogue. It would have been unintelligent for there not to be.”

The chairman of the commission, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, released a statement today saying that they could have investigated the governor, but chose not to. The governor told the New York Times that they couldn't, because it wouldn't pass the "laugh test." Who is correct? Who cares? Check out these poll numbers.

The Moreland Commission was such a success, U.S. attorney Preet Bharara is currently investigating it.
