A surveillance camera outside a Bronx storefront captured horrifying footage of a 12-year-old getting crushed by an out-of-control SUV.
The footage, which was captured May 10th, was shot near a notoriously dangerous intersection at White Plains Road and Watson Avenue. Abraham Al-Saidi was riding his bike on the sidewalk with some friends when a black SUV, in an apparent attempt at a U-turn, swerved onto the sidewalk, slamming into Al-Saidi and sending him through a storefront.
Al-Saidi was left with a broken arm and leg, but was lucky to escape with his life. Those familiar with the area said it's a magnet for bad driving, and are desperate for the city to make it safer.
"Sometimes I fear for my life," crossing guard Gladys Valdez told NBC New York.
The DOT has identified the intersection as one of the deadliest in the borough, having been the scene of eight fatalities and an average of 230 injuries per year since 2007.
An NYPD spokesperson could not tell us if the driver was charged.
