Greenpoint's East River Ferry Service May Be Back Next Week

Congratulations, Greenpoint residents! After five long months of being forced to commute with naught but a slow-moving bus and the elusive G train, your ferry service is expected to be restored. You know, if you're lucky—which those regularly forced to transport themselves elsewhere from Greenpoint are not, generally.
Way back in frigid February, the India Street ramp to the East River Ferry collapsed under circumstances that remain mysterious. The city offered ferry commuters free shuttle service to and from the North Williamsburg stop, but have still not resumed service, and a May update on the ferry's website failed to establish a timeframe for the ramp's repair and reopening.
Now, though, the ramp looks like it'll be back in business soon. DNAinfo reports that cranes were on-site making repairs this morning, and a spokesperson from the city's Economic Development Corporation told the website the new ramp should be complete by next Friday. They still haven't fully determined why the ramp collapsed in the first place, though, so perhaps wear waterproof shoes before embarking on your first ferry trip.
But of course, where Bureaucracy Giveth, Bureaucracy Taketh Away—ne'er forget that starting next Friday, the G train will suspend service between Nassau Ave and Court Square for five whole weeks.
