One of the Spanish tourists who was struck by a tour bus in Hell's Kitchen on Monday says that they had the right-of-way. “We were waiting to cross,” 50-year-old Maria Aranzazu Madariaga-Fernandez, told the Daily News from her bed at Roosevelt Hospital. "When the light turned, we started to cross. Suddenly, there was a bus...and it hit us."
An NYPD spokeswoman tells us that the driver of the bus received two summonses, one for failure to yield to a pedestrian and another for failure to exercise due care.
Bus driver Richard Williams, 37, turned left onto West 47th Street from 10th Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. when he struck Madariaga-Fernandez and her aunt, 62-year-old Maria Bagona. Bagona's leg was pinned underneath the front wheel of the bus, and she remains in serious but stable condition.
