A teenager was arrested and removed from the McCarren Park Pool yesterday afternoon after he allegedly attacked two Park Enforcement Patrol officers, according to authorities.
The NYPD says that Julio Camilo, 17, was denied access to the pool at around 1 p.m. yesterday, due to his disorderly behavior. "He was recognized as one of the troublemakers from the day before and told he couldn't get in," a Park officer told A Walk in the Park. According to authorities, Camilo failed to comply with the officers, running past them and onto the pool deck while fully clothed.
Cops say Camilo then assaulted several PEP officers after they asked him to leave, punching one officer on the side of his face and chipping his tooth. He also allegedly resisted arrest, kicking, shoving, pushing, spitting and refusing to be handcuffed.
Camilo was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. An officer told A Walk in the Park that disorderly behavior was not uncommon: "Every day we have to deal with disorderly people here. Many times they don't get reported because it becomes routine." When the pool first opened in 2012, there were a number of violent incidents and robberies; one 13-year-old girl had to undergo surgery after she was punched in the face at the pool.
