Throughout this month, Levi's is hosting a pop-up workspace in Williamsburg focused on the cyclists in our community. It's right off the Driggs bike path on the way to the bridge, so stop by and get a tune up, new handlebar wraps, that ever-needed thigh repair on your jeans, or just chill with other cycling fiends with free snacks and coffee on hand.
Make sure to RSVP to all the other upcoming events at the workspace, taking over 261 Metropolitan until July 26th.
On Tuesday, Levi's kicked off the month with an opening party to celebrate their new Commuter line, so we stopped by to check it out. We indulged in some fried chicken, listened to some surf rock, and perused the Levi's® Commuter merch on display. Check out the gallery above and our rundown below for what we saw.
GOLDSPRINT TOURNAMENT WITH LEGIT PRIZES
Maybe the biggest hit of the party was a preview of Drop Crank Society's Sprint Sundays, a stationary Goldsprint roller race taking place each Sunday the workspace is open. Held on Tokyobike demo bikes, contestants compete in heats for awesome prizes: a Tokyobike for first place, a $1,000 Levi's® gift card for second, and a set of Knog cycling lights for third and fourth.
FOOD, BOOZE, SUMMER JAMS
Beloved bar/venue/eatery Baby's All Right provided super crispy Thai fried chicken with Sriracha ginger barbecue sauce as well as mini grilled cheeses made with Midnight Moon, manchego, and gruyere. Alphabet City Brewing Co. offered up its citrusy-smooth Easy Blonde Ale and, since it's not a summer event without margs, the bartenders poured sparkling ginger margaritas.
Passersby who weren't beckoned by the Goldsprint races were curious about the bass filtering out through the space's windowed walls. Formerly of psychedelic pop outfit Yeasayer and currently solo ‒ when not collaborating with Of Montreal, Twin Shadow, and Caribou ‒ Sinkane treated the crowd to a DJ set before headliners Beach Fossils capped the night with their atmospheric surf rock melodies.
MECHANICS, TAILORS, BIKE WASHES
New York cycling mecca Ride Brooklyn lent their expertise to attendees' bikes with a smattering of tune-up options for free. Services include a lube job, tighten and tweak, handlebar tape, bells and new tubes. The bike isn't solo in its quest for road-readiness, so a tailoring station was also there repair garments and add reflective tape to your favorite jeans, shirts, laptop bags and helmets. Complimentary bike valet and washes ensured your bike looks as good as it rides.
LEVI'S POPULAR COMMUTER® LINE ON DISPLAY
The Levi’s® Commuter line was built from the ground up with cyclists in mind. Moisture-wicking shirts are water and dirt resistant, tees have underarm ventilation, jackets are accented with reflective tape, pants are engineered with clever features, and jeans rock stealth reflective tape only visible when cuffing your pant leg to ride. Denim and stitching is reinforced on the inner thighs, and there's a built-in belt loop for holding your U-lock. This is all done without sacrificing Levi’s® signature Americana style.
AWESOME THINGS TO COME
All month long, Levi’s® Commuter Workspace will give cyclists and New Yorkers a space to work, drink coffee, or just watch Williamsburg go by. There will be talks, installations, happy hours, and group rides with Bern, Preferred Mode, Pensa & Horse Cycles, Tokyobike & Japanese beermaker Ippon Matsu, Bike New York, Recycle a Bicycle, and Knog. Free bike repair continues from Ride Brooklyn, while professionals host workshops on DIY garment and bike repair. Not to mention, Levi’s has partnered with Gothamist to give away a $300 Levi's® gift card when you RSVP to an event and tweet #CommuterGiveaway.
Make sure to RSVP to all the other upcoming Levi’s® Commuter workspace events! Chances are it's on your commute anyway.
