Dave Chappelle, Wesley Snipes, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Chuck D, Erykah Badu, and more stopped by Bed-Stuy on Saturday to join Spike Lee in celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of Do The Right Thing at a giant summer block party. Thousands of people came out to the area around Stuyvesant and Lexington Avenues, the same Brooklyn neighborhood where it was filmed: "Oh my God I’m gonna be on YouTube tonight," Chappelle told the crowd. “I haven’t seen this many black people in nine years, ladies and gentleman." Check out some videos below.
"It’s good to see," Chappelle added. "My God, Brooklyn has changed. Just a few short years ago I was in this very neighborhood...horrified! And now I just love. God bless you all and thank you for welcoming me."
According to photographer Ellen Moynihan, who took the photos above, it was hard to get around the area: "My lord, it was packed. Like sardines. It could take five minutes to get through the crowds to cross the block." She added that there were lots of families around, and Lee was roaming the crowd, signing books, t-shirts and other items for fans.
