LOL Surprise, MTA Won't Finish All Of Its Projects On Time

Two of the MTA's much-hyped projects, the Fulton Center and the 7 train extension, are experiencing significant delays, just like the subway of your choice during a sweltering Monday morning commute.
The MTA announced the two projects' scheduling push-backs at an agency board meeting last night, according to the Times. Though the Fulton Street Transit Center—which purports to connect eleven subway lines from its Lower Manhattan hub—was supposed to open to the public on Thursday, transit officials are reportedly pushing the opening back two to 3 months.
Let us temporarily flashback to May 2009, in which MTA construction chief Michael Horodniceanu promised then-MTA Chairman Dale Hemmerdinger that the project would most certainly be finished by June 2014. In fact, according to Hemmerdinger, Horodniceanu had, "at least to me, signed it in blood." Nice job, Tom and Huck.
And that's not all! The completion of the 7 extension, which aims to stretch the 7 line all the way to 34th Street and 11th Ave, will likely be delayed until at least February 2015, though officials had initially expected to finish it by the end of the year.
The good news is, the MTA says they haven't gone over budget on either project, though the Fulton Center suffered some financial struggles earlier in its inception. And the East Side Access project, which would connect Long Island Rail Road trains to Grand Central Terminal, is even ahead of schedule, with officials projecting it'll be completed by December 2022 instead of September 2023.
As for the interminable Second Ave Subway, well, the MTA claims they'll be finished with it on schedule, but a consultant on the project tells the Times that "the schedule for the project is still in a rebuilding mode," so chances are your great-grandnieces will be playing Candy Crush on those trains before you can. At least Dr. Zizmor will look the same.
