A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured yesterday when she was stabbed during a fight outside a middle school in The Bronx, according to authorities.
Police say the unidentified teenager was stabbed in the back and stomach outside the Richard R. Green School on Barnes Avenue and East 216th Street in the boroughs' Williamsbridge section, at around 3 p.m. yesterday. According to authorities, she was transported to Jacobi Hospital in serious condition, and the Post reports she may have suffered a collapsed lung.
Witnesses say the victim, a student at the middle school's School of Diplomacy, had been brawling with several other girls outside—it is unclear whether any of the other individuals involved were students. "They were screaming and shouting,” one witness told the Post. “It escalated, and then one girl got stabbed." Police officers say the victim had been suspended for another violent episode at the time. A spokesperson from the Department of Education tells us the stabbing is a police matter, and the NYPD is investigating.
Yesterday's incident comes nearly a week after 14-year-old Timothy Crump was stabbed to death by a student outside the Joseph H. Wade intermediate school, located in the Mount Hope. The suspect, 14-year-old Noel Estevez, had reportedly been repeatedly bullied by Crump; he has been charged as an adult for murder and manslaughter.
