Grand Central Terminal's not exactly a food desert, but it looks like it might be getting an even bigger dining upgrade soon. The MTA has proposed a new 16,000-square-foot food hall for the terminal, complete with a Nordic brasserie and casual market-style pavilions. But DON'T WORRY—Shake Shack's not going anywhere.

The food hall, which will potentially open in early 2016, is being planned for the terminal's Vanderbilt Hall—the landmarked space was once a popular waiting hall, but has mostly been used for the terminal's Holiday Market in recent years. The MTA says they've planned to team up with Danish restauranteur Claus Meyer, whose Copenhagen spot Noma has earned two Michelin stars and was ranked Best Restaurant in the World in 2010-12 and again this year.

The new venture would replace Grand Central's Hot & Crusty outpost with a sit-down Nordic restaurant run by Meyer's group, in addition to a number of removable casual food pavilions in Vanderbilt Hall. The Holiday market would continue to run seasonally in the hall's eastern portion.

The MTA Board will vote on whether or not to approve the proposal on Wednesday.
