Summer is very nearly here, and with it comes the annual slew of weekend subway changes and packed, sticky shuttle buses that'll make you so, so sad you didn't take that job in Juneau when you had the chance. This weekend, the MTA's doing work on 14 subway lines—though thankfully the 7 train is running between Manhattan and Queens, albeit with some changes. Gotta embrace these brief snippets of happiness when you can.

The 1 train will be running express on the southbound track from 34 St-Penn Station to Chambers Street, thanks to track tie renewal at 34 St-Penn Station. That same change will effect the southbound 2 train from 11:45 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Friday to Sunday, and again overnight on Sunday.

There will be no 4 train service in either direction from149th Street-Grand Concourse and Woodlawn due to track panel installation. That change is in effect from 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Northbound 4 trains will also skip Fulton Street on Saturday, due to work on the Fulton Street Transit Center. 5 trains are suspended in both directions between Eastchester-Dyre Ave and East 180 Street all weekend, and from 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, northbound 5 trains will skip Fulton Street. And some northbound 6 trains will terminate at 3 Av-138 St from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, due to track maintenance at Cypress Ave.

All weekend long, Flushing Main Street-bound 7 trains will run express from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point, thanks to never-ending CBTC related work.

Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd-bound A trains will continue to skip 88 Street, and Lefferts Blvd-bound A trains will skip 104 Street because of station renewals at those stations. E trains will run local in Queens because of to signal modernization work. These changes will affect the A line through August 2014.

The F train will be rerouted via the E train on the Queens-bound line, with service affected from 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center to Queens Plaza thanks to Second Avenue Subway construction work. F trains will also run local in Queens in both directions all weekend long.

G trains will run every 20 minutes between Long Island City-Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Aves from 5 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Some Queens-bound G trains will terminate at Bedford-Nostrand Aves.

The L train will run every 24 minutes between Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway and Broadway Junction from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The L will also run in two sections, between 8th Ave and Broadway Junction, and from Broadway Junction to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway.

The N will be suspended in both directions between 57 St-7Av and Queensboro Plaza from 5:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning. Coney Island-bound Q trains will skip Parkside Ave; this change is ongoing through early summer 2014. Coney Island-bound Qs will also run express from Kings Highway to Sheepshead Bay due to track panel work at Brighton Beach, with changes in effect from 3:45 a.m. on Saturday to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. Ne'er forget that there are no N or R trains running between Court Street in Brooklyn and Whitehall Street in Manhattan until pretty much forever/sometime this fall.

And last but not least, the Franklin Ave shuttle will operate every 24 minutes all weekend long, thanks to track work.

That's all for now, folks—stay tuned for impending subway adventure news, including the G train's 5 week summer vacation between Nassau Ave. and Court Square. That joy kicks off on July 28th.
