Good news for Manhattanite lobster roll fans: the Lobster Joint's Lower East Side incarnation, shuttered by last month's water main break on East Houston Street, will reopen, perhaps as early as Monday. Lobster Claw Bloody Marys for everyone!
The main break on May 22nd flooded East Houston and caused quite a bit damage to area businesses, including Katz's Deli. In the wake of the flood, Lobster Joint general manager Alex Linomontes, told the Wall Street Journal that the damage was so significant—they lost refrigerators, boilers, equipment and thousands of dollars worth of seafood—it seemed likely the restaurant would never reopen. "We’re out of business," he told the paper. “We still have bills to pay, and there are hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage.”
But there is hope! This week, Bowery Boogie spotted a handwritten note on the Lobster Joint's closed gate claiming that the restaurant will be "reopening ASAP," and an employee at the flagship Greenpoint location confirmed they were eyeing an opening next week. Today, an employee at the Greenpoint Lobster Joint told us the LES spot was expected to open on Monday, though the date is still unconfirmed.
Either way, oyster happy hour will be back on East Houston soon enough.
