We judge Brooklyn like it's our job (which it kind of is) but we're happy to pass the torch to some culinary pros for this Saturday's The Judgement of Brooklyn, where the borough's food and wine will be objectively evaluated by some experts in their fields. Beers will be judged USA versus Europe and wines judged USA versus France, with several varieties of each on the table for comparison. Though not on the judgement block for the day, food samples will be provided by some borough chefs to complement the tastings. Tickets include unlimited wine and beer tastings plus different quantities of food, depending on your commitment level.
It's time for another cruelty-free extravaganza at Saturday's Spring Fever! Vegan Shop-Up!, filled with all sorts of non-animal products and eats to munch on site or take home for later snacking. The free event takes over the Pine Box Rock Shop yet again, with some fan favorites from previous iterations and newcomers including The Organic Grill, empanadas from Freakin Vegan and trail mix clusters from Mountain Morsels. It's also happy hour at the bar, so get ready to toss back a few bloody marys while you do your shopping and snacking.
Large tasting events have become the best way to check out fare from dozens of restaurants without committing to a full meal. One of the leaders of this trend was Taste of Tribeca, a veteran of the scene marking 20 years this Saturday. Neighborhood restaurants populate stalls along Duane Street between Greenwich and Hudson Streets from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering up a signature dish to attendees. There are several ways to participate; the most economical means a $45 advance ticket that gets you a Tasting Card with six "tastes" of your choosing. Ballers can spend between $350 and $950 for food runners and unlimited food and all sorts of other goodies.
