We've got no shortage of colorful, lively and unique Mexican restaurants, not to mention the excellent taquerias and street food stalls. The latest comes from Esquared Hospitality, known for the BLT restaurants and newly opened The Wayfarer, who opened Horchata last night on 6th Avenue in the Village. They've tapped Top Chef alum Manuel Trevino to run the kitchen, which turns out the kind of Mexican comfort food New Yorkers have been greedily inhaling with ever greater gusto.

Tacos like Brussels Sprouts ($9) with spiced pumpkin seeds, poblanos, cotija cheese and crema and Atun ($15), tuna encrusted in tortilla with guacamole and sriracha aioli aren't the typical fillings you find at NYC taquerias, though there are Pollo ($10), de Cerdo (pork belly, $12) and Costilla de Res (short rib, $13) on offer as well. Guacamoles are meant to be shared and come flavored with apple and cucumber; roasted tomato, chipotle and habanero; or chipotle cheese, chorizo and potato chips in additional to a classic version.

Vegtarian Enchiladas Doblades ($16) stuffed with cheese, avocado and cabbage and the Dorado en Hoja de Platano ($25), mahi-mahi grilled in a banana leaf, are good bets for entrees; or just make a meal out of decadent Queso Fundido ($10), a shrimp ceviche ($14) and a side of Elote ($5), the mayonnaise-and-cheese covered ear of corn that's popular as street food. They're also doing Saturday and Sunday brunch with additional egg dishes, burritos and chilaquiles.

Befitting the name, there are several kinds of Horchata—a sweet, almond milk drink—on offer, including versions with a shot of espresso or a shot or rum, depending on your intentions for later in the day. Margaritas ($12) in Blood Orange, Meyer Lemon Yuzu and Jalapeno Cucumber are good for summertime sipping, as are Agua Frescas ($6) in mango, watermelon and pineapple flavors.
