It may be dreary and dripping outside but the temperature should climb into the low 70s today, making for a truly special blend of heat and humidity that calls for something cold to nosh on. Well by golly wouldn't you know it, it's free cone day at Carvel! The soft-serve purveyor is giving away free junior cones swirled with your choice of vanilla, chocolate or the trendy new salted caramel ice cream.

It's part 80th birthday celebration and part fundraiser; stores will offer $2 coupon books, proceeds from which go directly to the American Red Cross. Swing by any Carvel "shoppe"—including the hybrid Cinnabon and Subway-style joints—between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to redeem your cone.
