Six firearms dealers suspected of trafficking guns in Brooklyn were served a 556-count court indictment today, with prosecutors alleging the crew transported hundreds of automatic and semi-automatic weapons, pistols and revolvers into the city.
In a press release from Brooklyn DA Kenneth P. Thompson's office, the DA and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton announced the indictment of six defendants—Michael Brewer Quick, Rodney Cantrell Brewer, Emmanuel Caswell, Aliya Camille Dowell, Albert Ellis Pless, and Marcus White. Quick, 32, who has residences in LaGrange, Georgia and on Staten Island, allegedly conspired with the other five defendants to move a large quantity of firearms from Georgia, taking a total of 13 car trips and selling the weapons to an undercover NYPD officer near the 69th Precinct Station in Canarsie.
The DA's office says many of the firearms were loaded when they were sold to the officer, and that the loot included an AR-15, a MAC-11, two TEC-9 automatic weapons and 151 types of pistols and revolvers—the guns could reportedly be resold at as much as five times their initial retail price in Georgia. It's unclear how much a stylish pink gun, pictured above, fetches on the black market.
Four out of 5 defendants all face charges of criminal possession of a firearm in the 1st degree, and all five were indicted for conspiracy in the 4th degree. Quick, Brewer and Dowell are in custody in Brooklyn, while Caswell, Pless and White are awaiting extradition in Georgia.
