A hit-and-run driver killed a cyclist and injured at least one other motorist in Bushwick this morning. An NYPD spokesman says the collision occurred shortly before 8 a.m. when the driver of a 2014 BMW struck the cyclist at the intersection of Broadway and Halsey. The driver then crashed into a parked car, and proceeded to barrel down a one way street near Broadway and Thomas S. Boyland Street, crashing into an SUV.
According to investigators, the driver abandoned the BMW at the intersection of Chauncey Street and Thomas S. Boyland Street. The condition of the SUV and its occupants is still being determined, but the driver of the first vehicle struck was transported to Woodhull hospital in stable condition.
The cyclist, an unidentified 46-year-old male, was pronounced DOA at Woodhull.
“It happened so fast," a witness who works at Dunkin' Donuts tells the Post. "We saw the man on top of the car and we were like wow. I was going to throw up. I’ve never seen anything like that, it’s not something that happens every day. I went outside I seen the guy laying in front of Rite Aide his head was all messed up and they [emergency responders] already started working on him."
The BMW driver remains at large. We'll update as more information becomes available.
