Are the Rockaways ready for mesh-clad waitresses and new wave Neapolitan pizza pies? Bushwick's most celebrated culinary contribution looks to be checking out some property on Beach 96th Street off Rockaway Boulevard, according to DNAinfo. Katie Honan, a reporter with deep ties to the neighborhood, says two sources "familiar with the plans" claim the pizza restaurant has been looking at a vacant lot with a dilapidated house and a large swath of dirt; so, not unlike the spot Roberta's took over when they opened in Brooklyn.
It's not a completely unlikely spot for the pizzeria, which already ran a seasonal beach-side pie stand last summer plus the burger joint Rippers at Beach 86th Street. This possible new restaurant would operate across the street from hipster-approved Rockaway Tacos; looks like the Brits were really onto something after all.
We reached out to Roberta's for confirmation of the new outpost and we'll update with any relevant details. There's no word yet on when—or if—this new venture will become a reality. Tide yourself over with some pizza-making porn in the meantime.
