A 77-year-old woman was killed by a driver attempting to parallel park in Sheepshead Bay earlier this afternoon. According to police, Marlene Baharlias was crossing the street east to west in front of 2060 East 19th at around 2:21 p.m. when she was hit by the driver of a 2014 Mercedes Benz.
Baharlias, who lived two miles north on Avenue L, was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. The driver remained at the scene. An NYPD spokeswoman said she did not know whether Baharlias was struck by the front or the rear of the car. The incident remains under investigation.
On Sunday night, 5-year-old Roshard Charles was killed in a similar incident in Crown Heights, when a minivan attempting to park backed over him while he crossed the street with his mother.
