As far as horrorshow holiday-themed drinking weekends go, it's hard to tell whether St. Patrick's Day or the dreaded SantaCon is worse. On the one hand, St. Patrick's Day has a whole parade full of people marching through Midtown, and foods are inexplicably dyed to match the pools of vomit lining Fifth Avenue. On the other hand, SantaCon is, well, this. But the MTA is well aware that both of these blackout fests warrant extra precaution: On Monday they will once again be banning alcohol on LIRR and Metro-North trains.
There will be no alcoholic beverages permitted on Metro-North and LIRR platforms and from 12:01 a.m. on Monday through 5 a.m. on Tuesday; offenders who are caught drinking will have their booze confiscated by train officials. The New York State Police will also be setting up DWI checkpoints statewide this weekend in hopes of cutting down on drunk drivers and related collisions.
Do note that since St. Patrick's Day falls on the start of the workweek this year, you can expect seemingly interminable celebrations to start sometime tonight, leaving plenty of opportunities to witness fun train drinking adventures over the next couple of days:
St. Patrick totally wanted to luggage rack luge race with the other Apostles after banishing all those snakes.
