A theatrical rep who works in Chelsea found an unexpected topping in her lunchtime salad from Guy & Gallard Tuesday. "It was the craziest thing," Robin Sandusky told the Post. “After a few bites, I look down at my fork, and think, oh, ‘Is that a piece of asparagus?’And then I saw that it had eyes, and an arm." Sandusky claims it was the remains of some sort of lizard.
Duly "grossed out," she sent the salad back to the Guy & Gallard location from whence it came. A manager at the 29th Street and 7th Avenue location confirmed that Sandusky asked for a refund, but insists there was no evidence of lizard in the salad when it came back. "When the salad came back, the lizard head wasn't there,” the manager told the Daily News. "We still refunded her money."
We reached out to Sandusky to determine what became of the lizard head (the Post reports she repackaged the head with the salad when the deliveryman came to collect it) and, this being New York, if she plans to sue. We'll update if we hear back. A manager at the Chelsea location refused to answer any questions about the lizard head, instead referring us to the corporate office, which did not respond to a request for comment.
Update: Sandusky tells us she definitely sent the lizard head back to Guy & Gallard. "I placed the lizard head back on the fork, back in the salad, and gave it to the delivery man," Sandusky recalls. "It was resting right on top. I actually told our receptionist: 'I'm sending this back, because of this.' Showed it to her. Closed the box. Went about my day."
Update 2: Guy and Gallard issued a statement: "Guy and Gallard pride ourselves on serving our customers the best and most nutritious food possible. We consistently receive good food inspection scores and we are currently looking into this issue. Guy and Gallard will continue to provide our customers with great service."
