Did everyone enjoy yesterday's beautiful weather? More than a foot of snow was measured in Central Park, making this the 7th snowiest February on record and the 9th snowiest winter since the first full season of observations in 1868-69. Champagne! Storm totals across the region ranged from a measly 4.5 inches in Groton, Connecticut to 20.5 inches in the shopper's haven of Harriman, NY.
Lots of melting is taking place today as the temperature has climbed above freezing and might approach 40 degrees under bright blue skies. Meanwhile, yesterday's storm is still intensifying as it reaches the Canadian Maritimes, which is why we will get winds out of the west at 20-25 mph this afternoon with the occasional higher gust. An Alberta Clipper passing to our north has an outside shot at producing a few flurries late tonight.
You know what this weekend needs? Another coastal storm! To meet the high demand for more snow, an upper-level disturbance will cause another coastal low to develop tomorrow. Saturday's storm should be far enough east that we should only see a mere pittance of 1-3 inches in the city. Another Alberta Clipper might bring a few flurries on Sunday and Monday night brings the chance for another coastal storm. To end on a different note, it will be considerably warmer by the end of next week.
